Dark Laboratory fosters a multimodal, interdisciplinary space for technology and the humanities. We bridge the gap between formal institutions and decentralized communities and networks. Lab theoreticians and technicians explore intergenerational trauma and how storytelling can be a mode of redress and potential healing. We center the Afro-Indigenous coalitions forged in the dark and the wilderness on the path to freedom during the time of enslavement. Sacred and sometimes unmarked burial grounds of enslaved Africans and Indigenous peoples overlap. The land is a storyteller, so we listen to what the soil narrates. With attention to tourist signage for National Parks, we also consider what signposts and monuments do to misdirect from histories of disinheritance and dispossession in the Americas. the author of Hip Hop at the End of the World and Who Shot Ya? He first made his foray into the culture in 1973 when he began capturing the ever present graffiti art dominating New York City. Armed with a 35-millimeter camera, Paniccioli has recorded the entire evolution of Hip Hop. Paniccioli, himself Native American, is known for his special eye for capturing people and communities ignored or misunderstood by mainstream America. Starting with snapping pics (a priceless history) of graffiti art in 1973 in NYC, he evolved to become the pictorial archeologist of Hip Hop much like James Van Der Zee did for 1920’s Harlem and Edward S. Curtis’ monumental prints did for the Native peoples of North America. Ogun Moewa is the last of the Black Indian Okenagas, and the only band of Black Indians left in traditional mas in Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival. When elder Narrie retired, he handed the baton to Ogun Moewa. In traditional encounters between two groups of Black Indians, the Flying Agitan would test his rival with questions and answers. The ability to correctly ask and answer questions was the measure of whether respect would be paid or whether insults and a battle would ensue.
